Characters: Yuuki Castle , Richard Castle (Rick), Alexis Castle, Martha Rodgers, Det. Kate Beckett, Det. Mac Taylor, Det. Stella Bonasera, Det. Danny Messer, Det. Lindsay Monroe, Dr. Sheldon Hawkes, Adam Ross, Dr. Sid Hammerback, Det. Don Flack, Carlisle, Esme, Edward, Alice & Emmett Cullen, Rosalie & Jasper Hale.

I go the idea for this story watching ‘CSI: NY’.
At first I thought I’d just have Jasper, but then I thought it would be too weird not to include the rest of the Cullens/Hales. Also, there’s no Bella in this story.
The characters Richard, Alexis, Martha and Kate are from the TV-series ‘Castle’. Season 2 will start late September in the US. Richard is a lone-child, but I really wanted him and his family in the story, and since he’s too young to be Yuuki’s dad, I chose him to be her brother. And I set Alexis’s age as 15, because I can’t remember if she’s 14 or 15…
The rest of the characters (as I’m sure most of you know of) are from ‘CSI: NY’. In ‘Castle’, they work with the NY Crimelab on some cases, so it’s pretty easy joining the two TV-series together in my story.
Yuuki’s name I took from the character Yuuki Cross (org. Yuuki Kuran) from the manga/anime series Vampire Knight by Matsuri Hino. In the series, Juri and Haruka are Yuuki’s real parents, so I chose them as her parents in my fanfic too, even though I’m not too found of Haruka. But, that’s based on his looks, not his personality; he’s barely in the series, and I can’t say more because that would destroy it for those who do not know what happens...
And I decided to change Yuuki’s eyecolor, because her original eyecolor is deep pools of chocolate, just like Bella’s and I didn’t want the two of them too alike.

Introduction

She is a 21 year old adopted human, training to be a CSI; he is a 166 year old vampire, working as a personal trainer. She knows little of her past; he knows as good as everything about his. Her parents died when she was a baby; his parents thought he died in the war. She has never fallen in love; neither has he. Then they met. Upon their first meet and first touch they feel the same; love. A feeling know yet completely unknown to the both of them.

But what happens when someone from her past threatens to catch up with her? Will they be strong together, or will they be split; all alone, weak and easily destructible?

Chapter 1 - The job offer

Yuuki’s POV

I was in the kitchen, rocking out to Three Days Grace whilst frying chicken for dinner. Therefore I did not notice when my cell rang. My brother, Richard, however noticed it. He laid a hand on my shoulder, causing me to jump.
“Rick, you scared me! What was that for?”
“Your cell,” he answered and held it up in front of me, “is ringing. I don’t know who it is though…”
I turned off the music, and answered the phone.
“You’re talking to Yuuki, who is it?”
“Are you Yuuki Castle?”
“Yeah, I am. Who am I speaking to?”
“I am Detective Mac Taylor from the New York Crimelab. I’ve been going through your appliance, and I’m pleased to tell you I’ve got a job offer for you here with us.”
“Hi Detective Taylor. Really? Do you want me for an interview? Just let me know when I shall come, and I will.”
“Just call me Mac,” he replied. “Well, do you have time tomorrow at ten o’clock?”
“Okay Mac. Yeah, I’ve got time. Where shall we meet? I must admit, I do not know where your office is…”
“Don’t worry. I’ll have someone pick you up at Grand Central about 9.45. Sounds good?”
“Thank you Mac. I’ll be there before then,” she answered.
“Great. Then I’ll see you tomorrow at ten. ‘bye”
“Goodbye Mac,” I said and hung up.

“So, was that a job offer?” Rick wondered.
“Yup. For the NY Crimelab,” I proudly replied.
“That’s great!” He pulled me into a hug. “Well, maybe we’ll get to work together then sis.”
“What do you mean? You’re not asking me to give you information about the cases for your books, are you?” He laughed.
“No, I’m not. But, you remember the case I helped out on? The murderer that copied the murders from my book?”
“Okay…” I was skeptic. “What about that?”
“Well, I’ve gotten permission to follow Detective Beckett on her cases!” He sounded really pleased with himself.
“Really? Does she know yet?”
“Nope,” he said, popping the ‘p’, and smiling.
“And knowing you, you’re gonna enjoy it, right?”
“Yup.” He popped the ‘p’ again, smiling even wider.

I rolled my eyes at him.
“So, when will mom and Alexis get home? Dinner’s almost ready.”
“Uhm, I think she said around 5. It’s 4.45 now.”
“Okay. You wouldn’t mind setting the table?” I asked him, turning back to the stove. He sighed, muttering something about ‘woman’s job’, causing me to roll my eyes again. Before, he would’ve annoyed me with that line, but I’ve heard it so many times that I stopped caring, and just ignored it. Besides, I know he doesn’t mean it; he’s just joking.
Our mother, Martha, had taken Alexis out for shopping after school. Alexis is my niece; Richards daughter.

Richard and I grew up in the shadow of our mother Martha Rodgers, a famous Broadway actress. Richard became a rebel, getting constantly kicked out of every private school in the city. He grew up with a nanny, sine mother was busy performing. I was partially raised by the same nanny, but my brother helped out too.
I am 16 years younger then him, and didn’t have the same kinds of problems. This is mostly due to the fact I’m adopted.

My mother, Juri Kiryu, moved to New York with my father Haruka Kiryu, and she met Martha. She gave birth to me a couple of years later. When I was two, they were killed. I do not know how or why, just that Martha had agreed to be my guardian if something happened to me.
I tried to fit in, tried to make friends that wanted to be with me because of who I am, not because mother and Richard are famous or because I’m not American.

Richard finished school and discovered a passion for writing, and his first wife; Meredith. She was struggling to become a famous actress, and she reminded my brother so much of mother, that it didn’t take long for them to get married. I remember I envied them so much, because I’d never been with anyone; no one caught my interest, and it was clear how much they loved each other.

They had a great marriage, and when I was seven, they had a beautiful daughter; Alexis. After a couple of years though, Meredith left him and moved to Malibu with her director, whom she had an affair with. She just sent him the divorce-papers from there.

Life was peaceful for a while, and I helped in raising Alexis. And then Rick fell in love with his editor, Gina Cowell. They got married, and had a good life together. But, she loved his successful too much. He decided to kill of his main-character, Derek Storm, and used the advance on his next book to divorce her when he found out that was the main-reason they were together. She’s still his editor though...
Meanwhile, mother’s husband ran off with her money, causing her to move in with us in Rick’s apartment. At that time, I was in Uni. here in NY, at the State University of New York at Albany, on my way to becoming a CSI. I took courses in forensic science, and that part of my education lasted five years.

Then, a few days ago, another change happened. Rick met Detective Kate Beckett on the release party of his latest book, Storm Fall. They took him into the 12th precinct of NYC and questioned him about a murderer that based the killings from my brothers books. He then discovered that he would be of great help, and was allowed to help on the case because he knew the most about it.

And now, he’d talked to the mayor (a good friend/fan of his), and, after clearing it with Beckett’s supervisor, he’s gonna follow her on the work.
What an adopt… no, what a family have I? Don’t get me wrong though, I love them so much. I’ve got a mother, brother and a niece. And even though they’re pretty weird, I wouldn’t have them any other way.

“Okay, table’s done,” Richard yelled at me, and I heard him retreating to his office. Pffft, yeah right. We’ll see about that… I sighed, and found a bowl for the rice and sauce, and a plate for the chicken, before carrying them to the table. And, it was actually set, for once… hm, what’s up with him… I shook my head, dismissing the thought.

I returned to the kitchen and hung up the apron, before getting put drinks. Just as I was on my way over to the table with it, the door opened, and mother and Alexa stepped inside, carrying about 5 bags each. I stepped over so I could help them with their stuff.
“Perfect timing,” I told them. “Dinner’s ready. Alexis, why don’t you go get him?”
“Sure,” she said, and flitted off towards Rick’s office.

When we were done eating, I told them I had an announcement to make, and I saw that both Alexis and mom were curious.
“Yuuki-chan, what is it?” Alexis asked me.
“Well, I spoke with Detective Mac Taylor from the NY Crimelab a few minutes ago, and they want me for an interview there tomorrow at noon! Nothing’s certain yet, I just couldn’t hide my excitement.” Mom and Alexis got out of their chairs and walked over to hug me.
“Congrats hun, I’m certain you’re gonna get this job!”
“Thanks mom. I really hope so too! It’s just what I wanted, plus, since it’s so close, I don’t have to move either. I’m not entirely sure where it is, but Mac told me he’d send someone to meet me at Grand Central tomorrow.”

I went to bed early, as I wanted to be awake the next day. And it was a good idea, seeing as it took me a while to fall asleep, because I was nervous. I tried not to think about it, but it wasn’t easy. After an hour, I got my iPod and iPod speaker, and looked through my music for something calming, before finally deciding to listen to Kanon Wakeshima. I started out with Still Doll, then Suna no Oshiro, Monochrome Frame, Shiroi Kokoro and Sweet Dreams.
Since I chose the calming songs from the album, I managed to fall asleep not long after Sweet Dreams ended, and I was grateful for that.

The next morning I was awakened by my alarm at 7 o’clock. At first I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t think about why I had to get up then, so I turned the alarm off, and crawled under the covers again.
And then I sat straight up.
“Crap!” I exclaimed. I looked at the clock; luckily just ten minutes had passed. I jumped out of bed, grabbed my robe and ran into the bathroom. I took a quick, but relaxing shower. When I was done, I found out I had absolutely no idea what-so-ever as to what I was gonna wear. Should I wear pants, a skirt or a dress? A top or sweater? And which shoes? Not to talk about what I would do to my hair and with my makeup!
“Gaaaah!” I exclaimed loudly “what the hell am I going to wear?!” Then mom walked in.
“Oh honey? Having a clothing problem are we?” She asked with a twinkle in her eyes. Mother might be a lot of things, but the thing she’s best at is styling, and that’s exactly why I was really grateful she was awake and able to help me.

After a while, with help from mother, I decided on a pair of skinny dark grey jeans, black converse and a black singlet with a white tunic. And I chose a silver and moonstone necklace, consisting of two crescent moons back-to-back with a full moon made of moonstone in the middle. And down from the full moon there’s a chain ending in a tear-drop, also made from moonstone.

I got dressed and put on some makeup, before I put up my waist-long, dark-brown hair in one high pony-tail on either side of my head.
Then I skipped downstairs and made breakfast and a cup of hot chocolate. When I’d eaten, I looked at the clock, and saw I had only ten minutes before I had to leave, so I ran upstairs to brush my teeth. On my way downstairs I literary ran into my brother.
“Good luck today hun,” he said and hugged me.
“Thanks bro, but I’ve really gotta run now! Mom’s down in the kitchen.”
“Okay, see you!” he called after me as I put on my coat, grabbed my purse and keys, and headed out.

I decided not to wait for the elevator, so I scurried down the stairs instead. Once outside, I walked to the nearest sub-way station and got on the first one that took me to Grand Central. I walked into the entry hall and looked at the clock; I was five minutes early, as I had planned. It’s always better to be early then late, and it makes a good impression.

It was full as usual, but it didn’t take a long time to get to Grand Central, so I didn’t care about it. When I got there, Mac called to tell me who was going to meet me there, and where to meet her. I recognized her from Mac’s description, and walked up to her.
“Hi. I’m Yuuki Castle. Mac told me you’re here to meet me,” I said, extended my hand to her and smiled.
“Yes, that’s right,” she smiled back at me, shaking my hand. “I’m Det. Stella Bonasera, and next in charge at the NY Crimelab.”

Preparing and packing for Ring*Con! Part 1

Okay, so since I'm leaving for Ring*Con at Thursday, I'm preparing and packing for it now. Or rather, I'm starting to pack now.

On Friday there's going to be a vamp-dance/party and I'm wearing a black knee-length dress with black stilettos.
On Saturday there's a costume contest, and I'm going as Mary Alice Brandon Cullen, commonly known as Alice Cullen. I'm wearing what she was waring in the movie, when Bella first saw them. That is, grey jeans, white short-sleeved shirt, black west and black ballet-flats.
And Saturday night there's a concert/play called "The Blue Elf's Dream". So I think I'll wear black jeans and a nice top there. Gah, I can't even remember what I own!

I'll have to roam my closet...

see ya!

Random Ramblings - Part I - Review of SM's The Host

Todays Random Ramblings is gonna be about.... hmmm... let's see...

Oh! I know!

The Host by Stephenie Meyer!

So, two days ago I finished reading this amazing book for the second time. The first time is hard for many people, I know, as it was that for me to. BUT if you manage to stick with it for the first 100 pages or so, you will not be able to stop reading it, I promise you.

The host is described as "Science fiction for people who don't like science fiction"

Here's the description on the back of the book:

"Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away.

Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves—Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love."

When I learned that Ms. Meyer had written another book, I decided I wanted to read it, no matter the subject. I waited (not very patiently, I must admit) for it to come in pocket-format. Easier to carry around and cheaper ;) I didn't know anything about the book at the time, but when I picked it up and read on the back of it, the first line instantly captured my interest, and I knew right away that I had to by it.

The Twilight-saga is a young adult series, whereas The Host is an adult novel, and hopefully the first in a series. Two days ago, The Variety announced that The Host will be made into a movie, and SMeyer confirmed this on her website.

From SMeyer website:

"September 23, 2009

Hey guys, great news! The Host is on its way to the big screen:

http://weblogs.variety.com/bfdealmemo/2009/09/twilights-meyer-tackles-adult-pic-fare-with-niccol.html?ref=ssp

I'm so excited to be working with Nick Weschler, and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz to bring The Host to a visual format. They've all been a dream to work with, so lovely and collaborative, and I feel like we're in a really good place to make a great movie together. And then to have Andrew Niccol writing and directing? Truly awesome. If you've never seen Gattaca, go watch it now. One of my favorite movies of all time. It's such a great example of character driven science fiction, which is ideal for The Host, no? I'm having an absolute blast imagining different dream casts, which I would post if people didn't take my silly blogs so seriously these days. I'm looking forward to seeing the cast lists you come up with in the fansite forums, and if any of them match mine.

So, very exciting. Yay Host!

The Host is an intriguing novel. It has what is probably the only threesome involving two bodies. Also, it is a very emotional book. I have never cried so much reading a book as I've done reading The Host.

Melanie/Wanderer (Wanda) have really different personalities.
Melanie is human, though, used to hardships and is willing to fight to stay as she is. She's also a good liar.
Wanderer is like every other Soul. She is kind, would rather flee then stay and fight, shrinks away from the sight of a gun, and would never do anything to harm others, even her enemies. And she is totally selfless, not doing anything for herself, always looking out for those she cares about.

Mel has spent years of her life hiding from the Souls/parasites. After their father was taken, she and her brother Jamie ran away, as it wasn't safe for them anymore. Mel had to take care of her brother. Then, when he was 11 and she 17, she met Jared Howe. For the next three years, they lived together like a family, and Mel and Jared fell in love. He was reluctant, seeing as he was over 20 years old, but he loved her nevertheless.

Wanda is a Soul, over a thousand years old. Her name, Wanderer, came from the fact that she has been to almost every planet, including The Origin. Her Call s storytelling, so she is hired as a professor, telling the other Souls about life at other planets. Earth is her 9th lifespan, and her 9th planet, as she has never been on a planet longer then one single lifespan. In a way, she is like a child, never having experienced emotions like the human-kind have.

Normally, when a Soul is inserted to its Host, the Host looses control of the body and disappears. Then the Soul get access to all the memories from its Host
Melanie however, refuses to fade. She is blocking her memories, at first not letting Wanda know that there are others out there, still human.

Mel was caught in an abandoned building, trying to escape the Seekers chasing her. She came there to look for her cousin Sharon, but was discovered entering the building. She hurriedly scribbled a note, letting Jared know she'd failed.
Then, when she realized there was no way out, she ran through the building, jumping into an empty elevator-shaft. She did not die, but was severely hurt. The Seekers brought her to a healing facility, restoring her body so Wanderer can be inserted.

When Wanda has successfully inserted herself into the body, controlling everything, her firs memory is the one of Mel in the building. And she notices she's not alone in the body; Mel is still there.

Over the next week, Melanie shows Wanderer memories of her first meeting with Jared and days spent on the run. Slowly, Wanda grows to love Jared and Jamie the same way Mel does, and they set out to find them, hoping they are still human.

If you loved it the first time, you're gonna love it even more the second time. As I said, the first chapters might be difficult. When you read it the second time, you will understand so much more, especially why different things happen and it is much easier to read the first chapters.

And I can promise you, this is a book you will read many times, and you will be as intrigued the second, third and 10th time as you were the first. And you will cry just as much every time, even though you know what will happen.
